Early mornings. I'll be honest, I don't like them. Not one bit. The coffee is brewing as I type, and I once again think to myself " I really need to get a programmable coffee maker ". My youngest woke me up at 6:43am to ask if he could lay down with me. In the hopes I could clock in an extra hour of sleep, I pushed over and allowed him to lay down. I should have known better. Some people are a blanket hog, some are space hogs, others are pillow hogs. My youngest son fits into all three categories. So, here I am. Awake. Then of course 7:30am my oldest crawls out of bed, disappointed because since I am awake before him he can't get on the computer to play his ZhuZhu Pets game. Instead, as I sit here and type this, I am tortured with having to listen to Pokemon: Black & White. What ever happened to good cartoons? I can remember all the cartoons I loved as a kid, and none were ever qualified under the term: dumb. Do you remember any? I can think of quite a few; Gummi Bears, Duck Tales, Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Smurfs, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Snorks, He-Man, She-Ra, Carebears, Captain Caveman, Pink Panther, Popeye, Looney Toons, Tiny Toons, Garfield, Heathcliffe. Nowadays, our kids watch useless dribble such as Spongebob Squarepants, a cartoon that significantly insults our intelligence. Who would ever let their kids watch a cartoon that glorifies flipping burgers as an ideal profession? Are we really going to be allowing our kids to be underachievers? Are we really going to allow our kids to not aim higher in life than to work at McDonald's or Burger King? Get real. Take note of what you're allowing your kids to watch. Take note of the behaviour of those who interact with your kids too. Kids learn what they see.
